　　Stringfellow 是由弦乐器和人所连起来的两个单字名字, 而Hawke 是老鹰加上一个e, 不过发音还是跟老鹰(hawk) 一样。主角离开村落住到山上小屋中, 为了让飞到近湖的老鹰所听到, 一个人弹 奏大提琴, 基本上他是一个孤独的人物。

　　在 12 岁的时候，Hawke 和双亲乘船时传翻覆，双亲死亡。 去越南当兵前 和女友乘车，发生汽车事故，失去爱人。而且在越南和哥哥圣特．约翰一样地从事作战，不得不置兄於敌地当中而离去。在把飞狼夺回的 任务中，爱上了中央情报局的女队员加百莉，但她也被飞狼的製造者莫非特拷问致死......。唯一能够让 Hawke 开心的人物是父亲的朋友： 直昇机飞行员 Dominic Santini （多明尼克．桑尼特，也就是台视翻译的「沉大佬」）。Santini 自 己经营小直昇机公司，Hawke 平时在这家公司工作。 而他所信赖的另 外一个朋友是爱犬泰特；这隻狗很胆小，有坏人来时必定躲到椅子下 ，而且最喜欢从下面偷看女性的裙子。

　　Hawke 是驾驶直昇机的顶尖高手， 在飞狼被偷以前，只有他 能够顺畅地驾驶飞狼。当飞狼的製造者莫非特把飞狼拿去投靠外国时 ，美国政府只有求救於 Hawke， 请他帮忙把飞狼偷回来。 但是当 Hawke 完成任务之后，却拒绝把飞狼还给 CIA，要求美国政府搜索在 越南成为兴宗不明哥哥 ---- 圣特．约翰的去向。美国政府没有办法 接受这个要求，因此便用一切手段想要取回飞狼..................
